The agenda for the Annual Rocky Mountain Wolf Working Group meeting is being finalized. The meeting will be held April 7-10 at Chico Hot Springs, Montana which is just north of Yellowstone National Park. A technical workshop about capturing and handling of gray wolves will be held on April 7 and 8 followed by panel discussions and presentations on April 9 and 10. Dr. L. David Mech will be the banquet speaker the evening of April 9. Please mark the dates on your calendar and prepare for a very informative meeting.

Monitoring

Idaho

No recent monitoring flights do to weather conditions.

Yellowstone Area

On January 23, all the Yellowstone wolves were in traditional use areas: Crystal pack in Pelican Valley, Leopold, Rose, and Druid packs in the northern range; pair R 30 and 35 in Thorofare; and the Soda Butte pack near Heart Lake. Wolves R 28 and 39 were not located. Wolf R 28 was not located. Wolf R 39 was on the east side of the Crazy Mountains. One other gray wolf-like animal was with her.

Northwest Montana

On January 26, the Pleasant Valley pack was located just southeast of the valley in a winter range area. All three wolves were observed laying on a hillside.

Information, Education & Law Enforcement

During the end of the week the film crew from the television show "How Did They Do That?" interviewed the Yellowstone crew and assisted with feeding the wolves in the Rose Creek pen. On Sunday they filmed the Pleasant Valley pack in northwest Montana and interviewed Fontaine.
