Idaho
A telemetry flight is being conducted on February 4. No recent information.
Yellowstone Area
On January 27, wolf R 28 was located 12 miles south of Three Forks, Montana. The radio collar was on
mortality mode. On January 29, FWS Special Agents retrieved the body of R 28 and submitted it to the
Bozeman Lab. Preliminary investigation indicated that the wolf had been shot several times. R 28 was a
130 pound male wolf that was reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park in 1996. His mate, R 27, was
recently returned to the Park from the Nye, Montana area. One of R 27's pups continues to travel in the
Nye area and its tracks were observed around a deer kill.

The 1996 Rocky Mountain Wolf Working Group Annual Report is being prepared. If anybody has information to
add to the report please contact Joe as quickly as possible. We are try to finish the report by February
15.
