Gray Wolf Recovery Weekly Progress Report
Week of Dec 25 - Dec 31, 1996
Monitoring
Continuing poor weather (snow, wind, rain) has prevented nearly all wolf location flights in Idaho, Montana,
and most of Wyoming. A very limited flight located the Nye Female (#27) north of the heavily-timbered
mountainous areas she has previously used but female #39 was not fund. As soon as weather permits ADC will
attempt to capture #27 and any pups that are with her.

Information, Education & Law Enforcement
Wayne Brewster and Bangs are continuing to work on writing a chapter for a book on predators in the
Yellowstone ecosystem. Bangs was interviewed over the phone for a Defenders of Wildlife magazine article
on the National Wolf Strategy. The National Strategy will involve a process to look at how the Service
will define its role in wolf recovery and how other scientists and the public will be involved in the
effort. Exactly what that process will involve has not been decided at this time.
The weekly wolf report can now be viewed at the Service's Region 6 web site at
www.r6.fws.gov/wolf.
