Idaho wolf killed on I-84 Near Baker, Oregon
June 5, 2000
A former member of the now extinct Twin Peaks Pack of Idaho has been found dead along the Interstate highway near Baker in Eastern Oregon. This wolf, B83M, was the "Judas" wolf that was supposed to lead Wildlife Service gunners to the pack's pups so they could make sure all the wolves were dead. However, he did not continue to hang around Curt Hurless's farm or lead to the pups. B 83 was last radio-tracked on April 18. In about a month's time, he apparently moved all the way to Oregon, but was hit and killed on while crossing an exit ramp on the Interstate 84.There is a slight chance it was killed in some other fashion and dumped in Oregon. However, the wolf was not shot.
Here are two stories on the matter from the Oregonian newspaper.
