Snowmobile Rider Still A Threat to Parks

We wish it would go away, but it hasn't: Senators Ted Stevens (R-AK) and Craig Thomas (R-WY) are still trying to attach an anti-environmental rider to one of the remaining appropriations bills that would prevent or slow the National Park Service as it works to stop snowmobiling in national parks. Senator Stevens has been speaking with some Democrats about a compromise on the rider, but any rider that undercuts the Park Service's ability to protect parks from snowmobiling is UNACCEPTABLE!

We asked you to call Senators and Congressmen last week. The last line of defense against any rider that would harm national parks is President Clinton. If you haven't done so already, TAKE ACTION! If you have done it once, TAKE ACTION AGAIN! Call the White House switchboard and leave a message that you are strongly opposed to ANY riders on any appropriations bills that would delay or prevent the National Park Service from pursuing its ban on snowmobiles.  Ask that a copy of your message go to Al Gore as well. (You don't need to know the bill number, just voicing your opposition to any snowmobile rider is enough.) To reach the White House, call (202)456-1414. THEN - go to www.npca.org/take_action/action_alerts/ and send an electronic letter to President Clinton.

Thank you again for your efforts to protect national parks.

If you can forward this message to at least 5 friends, or any appropriate list serves, please do so today! Please let us know you took action by sending a message to TakeAction@npca.org. Thanks for your help
