As I reported on Jan 10, the Soda Butte Pack again left Yellowstone and travelled though the Beartooth Mountains to the Beartooth Front. They are still there in the general area near Rosebud, Montana.The Beartooth Stockgrowers Assocation is demanding that the pack be returned to Yellowstone National Park. The Association insists that attacks on livestock are inevitable, although there have been none to date.
Defenders of Wildlife has a fund to fully reimburse owners of livestock who suffer losses to wolves. It has been used once so far (see previous story).
The Soda Butte Pack is very familiar with the Beartooth Front and the routes to it and back to Yellowstone because they have made this journey through the heart of the Beartooth Mountains a number of times since last summer. In fact they denned in the Beartooth Mountains, and the pack had one new pup.
