The Plateau has been the home range of the Leopold Wolf Pack ever since the pack was founded in 1996. That pack was the first naturally formed wolf pack in Yellowstone in 75 years.

Most people don't venture out on it because it is under a strict grizzly bear closure during most of the summer.

By the end of 2004, the Leopold Pack had grown to be the largest wolf pack in Yellowstone Park, but it split in 2005. The split wandered to the former territory of the Geode Pack to become the Hellroaring Group.
