Madison Range, Montana
The Wedge in the Madison Range. Photo from the Madison Valley in April. This rugged mountain range is mostly protected by the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. The range was the primary home of the Taylor Peaks wolf pack which formed in 2000, and denned there again in 2002 and 2003. Significantly its first den site was Wolf Creek, indicating the historical continuity of habitat despite about an 80 year absence of wolves.
Later the Sentinel Pack formed in the range, and the Ennis Lake Pack too,
although its range was not delineated before the government wiped it out
for attacking livestock.
