Madison Valley (lower), Montana

April in the lower Madison Valley, Montana. Gravelly Range in the background.

Not to be confused with the upper Madison Valley inside Yellowstone National Park, the lower Madison is between the Madison Range and the Gravelly Range from Ennis, Montana southward for about 30 miles.

In the winter and spring the valley has patrolled by the Taylor Peaks and the Freezeout wolf packs which prey on the abundant deer and elk herds, and pronghorn antelope if the wolves are fast enough.

The Taylor Peaks Pack died out of mange in early 2004.
