Pinedale, at the foot of the Wind River Mountains, is the county seat of Sublette County, Wyoming. Long a farm, ranch, tourist, and outfitting committee, the jumping off spot to the famed Wind Rivers, the countryside to its west and southwest is being completely industrialized by natural gas exploration and production.

The area has seen a continual influx of wolves from the north. Some have inhabited the foothills of the Wind River Mountains. Other wolves have wandered though the gas wells toward Utah.

The area, however, is kind of a big hole for wolves. More wolves have been "control-killed" in the general area around Pinedale (Sublette County, Wy) than any other place in the 3 state area. The number of dead wolves is getting close to 100 at mid-2006
