The Teton Basin. View toward the west slope of the Tetons. Jackson Hole lies to the east of the Tetons in Wyoming, huge scenic valley. On the Teton's other side is somewhat less scenic, but still impressive valley, surrounded on three sides by mountains, and open to the north. The is the Teton Basin. It is barely inside Idaho. Long overlooked in favor of Jackson Hole, the Teton Basin's southern end is now filling up rapidly with second homes and retirement residences. The mountains on its three sides, however, are wilderness, backcountry, or lightly developed: the West Slope of the Tetons to its east. The Big Hole Mountains to its west and the Snake River Range on the South. The Grand Targhee ski resort, which is located fairly high on the West Slope of the Tetons has fueled much of the real estate boom. Winters are long. Wolves are finally beginning to inhabit the area. The Driggs pack formed in the winter of 2005-6. |
