Grizzly Bear Management Units. Yellowstone
There are 18 grizzly bear management units (BMUs) in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. These comprise the Yellowstone Grizzly Bear Recovery Area. A map of the BMUs appears below.

One of the problems with these BMUs is that they don't fit the actual grizzly bear population. For example there are now numerous bears to the south and southeast of these BMUs. The Henry's Lake and Plateau BMUs on the west do not consistenly have bears. Some years there are a few, but there is none of the required reproduction, defined as a one or more females with cubs for three years in a row.
