Druid no. 42F moves the pups to late 40F's Den

5-15-2000, update 5-16

Druid female 42F, who may have helped kill the alpha female, her sister 40F, about 6 days ago, was observed to have carried at least 4 pups from the new Amethyst Creek den across the Lamar River and then up to the  pack's traditional densite on Druid Peak.

No. 105F was observed trying to move one more pup from the den across the Lamar River.  She failed. I don't if the pup drowned or not.  Presently, all but one all of the pack is centering on the traditional pack densite,  and no adult wolves remain at the Amethyst Creek site.  The exception is 106F who may have a den of her own about a mile from Druid Peak.  No. 147M, a disperser from the Chief Joseph Pack, who has been a lone wolf in the Lamar Valley area for some time now, is near her densite.  While it is very doubtful he is the father of any pups she may borne, he could possibly pair with her after the fact.

It is also possible this his proximity means nothing.

It appears that both 103F and 42F are nursing.  All the pups (except the one that may have drowned) have been moved to Druid Peak. Now that they are in the timber at the traditional Druid Peak den site, the pups are impossible to see.  The Amethyst Creek site was across the Lamar River and so was safe from the public, but quite visible.

Grizzly Bear Update:

"Bearman" Kevin Sanders reports that the Soda Butte Creek, Lamar Valley, and Slough Creek area are really full of grizzly bears this spring, and one female in Slough Creek has four cubs!  Three cubs is unusual and a sign of very good nutrition.

Be careful out there folks!
