Druid Pack seen with four pups.
And More News
6-27-97
As most folks know, the Druid Peak Pack has been suspected to have pups this year (maybe even two dens). For the first time now, the pups have been spotted with the pack. There are at least four pups. Observed have been three black pups and one gray.

The Druid Peak Pack has been very visible and traffic jams (of tourists) have formed. The normally visible Rose Creek Pack has disappeared, having probably moved to a rendezvous site well away from the roads in the Lamar Valley and Slough Creek. Over the last two years, folks have gotten used to seeing them.

In other news, since the rest of the wolves from the Nez Perce pen were released, they have pretty much hung around the pen. The pups (they are not radio collared) have not been seen and may have not left the pen. The father of the pups, no. 29M, who escaped from the pen in March has apparently returned to join his mate no. 37F (believed to be his sister!), the pups, his presumed mother, no. 27F, and two of the Sawtooth yearlings.

It has been difficult to observe the packs with more remote dens. I have received information that the one den outside of the Park, that of nos. 15M and 26F, in the mountains north of Dubois, WY, definitely has pups and has a den located in an elk calving area which gives them good access to food.
