Druids return to Lamar. Numbers down to 8 or 9
11-29-04, note 12-9
Although I half expected the Druids might leave the Park in their recent trip to the top of Cache Creek, they have been back in the Lamar Valley the last few days and made a kill yesterday in the Lamar River just upstream from its confluence with Soda Butte Creek. However, this pack of eleven is now down to just 9 (or maybe 8). Just 8 were seen today. Druid 348M has left and was tracked north of Yellowstone Park. An uncollared gray wolf left too.
Today they had a howling bout with the Slough Creek Pack. Slough Creek was on the northeast side of the Lamar, above the road.
The Agate Pack has been in Little America and the Leopolds on Saturday made their farthest push east to date. Twenty-two Leopolds were at the base of Garnet Hill (downhill from Tower near the Yellowstone River).
The Geode Pack still seems hard pressed to me. Today they were a bit west of Mom's Ridge.
379M is the Mollies Pack wolf who recently attacked the Druids along with his brother 378M, only to be routed the day next by the "New Black" (Druid alpha male). Anyway, 379M was on Specimen Ridge today along with 3 uncollared wolves (the distance to far to speculate about the 3 uncollared origins). Note 12-9. Turns out this was the return of the Specimen Ridge Pack.
The "New Pack" has not been seen now for about a week.
The northern range in Yellowstone is now covered by about 3 or 4 inches of snow, not really much yet, but it was -22 degrees F. this morning in the Lamar Valley.
