The US Fish and Wildlife Service today confirmed to me that the second pack that denned near Jackson Hole, the former "Jackson Trio," now the Gros Ventre Pack, has pups. The number has not been determined.
That is good news in the wake of the highway death of the alpha male of the other Jackson Hole wolf pack, the Teton Pack, last week. The Service reports that so far the surviving alpha female (no. 24F) is doing OK raising the pups by herself. She is in an area where there are many elk calves to eat.
