Three tracking hounds have been killed just northwest of the isolated central Idaho town of Salmon by the eight-member Jureano Pack. The hounds where chasing a bobcat 3 miles northwest of town when they ran into the pack which had been on top of Salmon River Mountain just west of Salmon all year.
There have been very few incidents with the Idaho wolves. The last one near Salmon was in January 1995 when wolf B13 was shot on a farm about 20 miles south of town. This was less than a month after the first wolf reintroduction, and it caused an Idaho media sensation.
I'll let the Idaho Falls Post Register's Salmon area correspondent tell the story .
Note added later six months later. I found out the hound hunters were hunting bobcats out of season. . . . Ralph Maughan
