Wolf no. 9 had no pups.

Dec. 16,2000

It took all year to see if famous no. 9F and her new mate had pups, but it appears they did not; or least none survived. She spent the year in thick timber and was very difficult to observe, but now that snow is on the ground, trackers have found the tracks of just two adult wolves. As a result she and her mate will not be the Beartooth Pack, but the Beartooth Pair.

No. 9 had at least one pup in Alberta in 1994 (no. 7F, long-time alpha female of the Leopold Pack), and litters in Yellowstone in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. She lost her 1997 pups due in part to obstruction by tourists as she was trying to move her pups from a poorly-chosen den (in full view of tourists) to that of her daugther, no. 18F. Story on her 1997 pups.
