The story turned out to be complicated. The wolf killed the elk at night. The next morning, before the wolves could finish eating the elk, Wyoming Game and Fish elk feed lot personnel dragged the carcasses away and put them in a pile near a public snowmobile route where passers-by could see them.

Last winter, Game and Fish did not do this, and there was no "surplus killing" by the Teton Pack or other wolves.
