Death of member of Spotted Bear Pack Investigated
May 29, 2000. Article (at bottom) added June 4
Last week the carcass of a female member of the Spotted Bear pack was discovered by an angler on the Clarks Fork River about 40 miles east of Missoula, Montana.
The wolf had been located by its radio collar last in April this year at the pack's den site near the Spotted Bear River adjacent to the Bob Marshall Wilderness where the pack was released last November.
When the angler found the wolf, however, the radio collar was missing, and the wolf had been shot and dumped into the Clarks Fork River. The wolf was identified, nevertheless, by its identifying ear tags.
