The unfortunate power of fear-

Oct. 30, 2004

The story tells me what fear can do -- cause you see a man and his horses as wolves coming to get you.  Even worse, this fear was groundless. If it had been wolves, most people I know would be reaching for their binoculars and cameras, not their rifle.

Unfortunately fear is everywhere in America this year.  The candidates are running on fear, especially fear of terrorists.

Yes the attack on New York the Pentagon were horrible, but there have been no other attacks in the United States since then. Of course they are possible, but do we need to be so fearful?

Terrorists' method and their power is to spread fear of terror.  When they can't make people afraid, they have lost. When they can, they are winning.

If Osama is reading about the guy whose fear of wolves caused him to shot a man, or more likely the campaigns that basically say "vote for me or you might be dead," I'll bet he is smiling broadly.
