A member of the Teton Pack dead. Investigation under way.

12-7-2000

The Jackson Hole News has reported that US Fish and Wildlife Service law enforcement is investigating the death of a member of the Teton Pack. The pack inhabits Jackson Hole, the Gros Ventre Mountains and the upper Green River area.

Little information was given except they received a phone call about the wolf's death. The death was in Teton County, Wyoming, but not in Grand Teton National Park. I followed up and asked USFWS Wyoming wolf manager Mike Jimenez if it was a yearling or the alpha female. As I thought, he could not reveal.

The Teton Pack has been led by wolf 24F since 1999 when her mate was killed on the highway shortly after she gave birth to her first and only litter of pups near Moran Junction. Until now, there had been no further mortalities in the pack, although one wolf may have dispersed.
