Brief northern range update -- Yellowstone

9-20-2005, update 10-3-05

Folks ask if Yellowstone Park wolves are visible lately.  I called Rick McIntrye. He said the Slough Creek Pack seems to be doing well and has been visible every day lately in the Lamar Valley. The three surviving pups look healthy and are becoming more independent, and they are doing some exploring on their own. The Slough Creek alpha pair are 490M and 380F. Something happened to the alpha female in late spring/early summer. At any rate, she disappeared, and since then 380F has taken over the role.

The Agate Creek Pack is visible again from the Mt. Washburn area. They have returned to Antelope Creek. They too have three surviving pups-of-the year.

Update 10-3. Rick McIntrye told me that the Sloughs are still being seen every day, including this morning when 9 wolves, including 2 of the 3 pups were at the old rendezvous site the Druids used to use (Chalcedony Creek at the base of Specimen Ridge). The Lamar Valley now has its first real covering of snow.  There is no other news from the Park available right now.
